Amazon Web Services (AWS)

AWS is the leading cloud platform, launched in 2002 and has the highest market share of all cloud providers. They have recently launched a region in NZ, giving local businesses access to enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure, lower latency, and full data residency options.

AWS does (almost) everything

As of 2025, AWS offers over 600 services. Yes, you read that correctly, everything from AWS Fraud Detector to AWS X-Ray: there’s a product that can provide your business with an innovative edge.

That’s where we come in. We understand AWS, and how it can help grow your business. More common examples include:

  • Hosting with EC2 and Relational Database Services (RDS)

  • Off-site backups of on-premise servers with S3

  • Caching & acceleration using CloudFront

  • Security & governance with AWS firewalls, IAM, and monitoring tools

Auckland & Global Datacentres

Currently, AWS has Local Zones for compute, storage, and databases in Auckland. Development is underway for full Auckland zone availability, as Amazon builds three datacentres here. The Sydney zone has the full suite of AWS services, as well as 32 other zones around the world.

Other Options

Sometimes it’s cheaper to own the hardware rather than rent it. 37signals recently did a cloud exit. But for the majority of businesses, an AWS or Azure cloud solution makes sense.
